Partner News: INTUITION network and Conference: What comes next?
Date: 17 October 2008
The INTUITION Network of Excellence on Virtual Reality (VR) and Virtual Environments (www.intuition-eunetwork.org), featuring 58 partners, among them ERTICO Partners CRF, Volvo Technology and Daimler, has successfully completed its fourth year. INTUITION focused on all VR related technologies and application areas including the automotive sector.
A Working Group with strong participation from OEMs, suppliers, technology providers and Research Institutes worked for the last four years on user needs, promising technologies and roadmaps for the use of VR and AR in the automotive sector with applications on designing, virtual prototyping, evaluation, demonstration and maintenance of new systems, components and prototype vehicles. In the second week of October the INTUITION Annual Conference took place as well as the final meetings of the project, kindly hosted by CRF.
The Conference had as the main axes industry and society and in particular, how research can be transferred to application, boasting thus a rich programme of peer reviewed papers, invited contributions, 5 keynote speeches from prominent researchers in the VR field and a hands-on exhibition of promising technologies. This highly successful event signified the ending of INTUITION as a funded project: 200 scientists participated, taking part as attendees, speakers and exhibitors, learning about the INTUITION results as well as its future beyond the European funded period.
INTUITION has paved the way for the launching of a European Association for Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality (EuroVR), a self sustainable organization that will embrace all interested stakeholders of the VR Community, varying from Industries and SMEs to Research Institutes, Laboratories and individuals. A call for founding members is already open and more than 80 Organizations and individuals have so far confirmed their participation.
