Project News: ADASIS Forum to present ‘ADASIS light’ in New York
Date: 15 September 2008
The ADASIS Forum was established in 2002 by a group of car manufacturers, in-vehicle system developers and map data companies with the primary goal of developing a standardized map data interface between stored map data and ADAS applications. The ADASIS Forum is an open industry forum hosted and coordinated by ERTICO, and consists of more than 30 ERTICO Partners from different sectors of the European automotive industry, i.e. vehicle manufacturers, navigation system and ADAS suppliers, as well as digital map vendors.
Since navigation systems are increasingly entering the vehicle, the available map data may not only be used for routing purposes but also to enable in-vehicle advanced driver assistance applications. The area of potential features reaches from adaptive headlight control up to preventive safety systems and fuel economy applications.
The need for a simplified version of the ADASIS protocol has arisen from the problem that the current version of the ADASIS protocol is quite complex and does not fit the needs of most vehicle manufacturers for series implementation. In order to avoid the implementation of company specific versions of an ADAS horizon interface, ADASIS v2 is designed to address these challenges and will ensure the provision of an open architecture which can be used for any kind of advanced in-vehicle application. A first proposal of "ADASIS light" or "ADASIS v2" has been specified to this end.
Christian Ress of Ford Research & Advanced Engineering will present as ADASIS Forum Chairman the latest achievements of the ADASIS Forum in a session on “Digital mapping for safety applications” on 16 November at the ITS World Congress. In his presentation, Mr Ress will focus on the updated version of the CAN protocol specification, and outline the basic principles of ADASIS v2. With the Adaptive Speed Recommendation, Mr Ress will also introduce an application example. A second session on “Standardizing map data delivery to driver assistance systems” on 19 November will focus on status and challenges with respect to standardization with speakers from the automotive industry.
